BikeWalkKC’s popular bike skills program for elementary school students is in a record eight schools this fall, returning for another semester in the North Kansas City and Hickman Mills school districts. This year BLAST is also expanding to the Raytown School District for the first time. BLAST (Bike Lesson And Safety Training) visits 5th grade PE classes for four sessions of classroom instruction and on-bike skills lessons. The class culminates in a graduation ride on streets around the school.

Kids learn to bike safely and confidently to school and around their neighborhood. BikeWalkKC can also help schools and communities make improvements to the streets and sidewalks so that kids have safe places to bike and walk.
Today’s kids are the first generation of Americans with a shorter life expectancy than their parents – largely because they not getting enough exercise and not eating healthy. Getting more kids biking and walking to schools is a great way to incorporate activity into their daily routines.
