Traffic Calming Lending Library

Traffic calming makes streets safer for people who walk and bike by reducing the speed at which cars travel. BikeWalkKC has materials available for individuals and organizations to use for traffic calming demonstration, pop-up, better block, and tactical urbanism events.

Use of the lending library is normally free for community groups and other nonprofit organizations, but there may be a fee for special requests or extended loan periods. BikeWalkKC can provide technical assistance with planning and layout of the event for a fee.

BikeWalkKC Business Membership includes one free rental per year. Additional rentals may be arranged for a fee, depending on availability of equipment. Learn more about business membership.

About the lending library
The Traffic Calming Lending Library is available to anyone in the Greater Kansas City area and/or western Missouri. It was established by a Plan4Health grant to the Missouri chapter of the American Planning Association and to our friends at Trailnet in St. Louis. Additional funding was provided by the AETNA Foundation.

All loans are subject to a Memorandum of Understanding and proof of event insurance. Borrowing organizations are responsible for obtaining any and all permits and permissions from the relevant municipal authorities and adjacent property owners.

Equipment is stored about the BikeWalkKC office at 30th and Troost in KCMO and is available for pickup during regular business hours. Borrowers are responsible for picking up and returning equipment on the agreed upon schedule.
