Impacting Transportation Inequity

Through our Transportation Equity work, primarily funded by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, BikeWalkKC has implemented a robust array of programs and services to impact health outcomes and mobility options for underserved populations. We have developed a deep understanding of the neighborhoods and communities in the greatest need of interventions to improve health and access to alternative modes of transportation. Specifically, BikeWalkKC’s transportation equity programming includes: adult education like Earn-a-Bike and bike safety/maintenance classes, women-specific programs and outreach through our Women Bike KC initiative, Complete Streets Neighborhood Advocacy workshop, community engagement and capacity building workshops, and other programming in order to achieve increased mobility and transportation access for individuals residing in neighborhoods with poor health indicators overlapped with high potential for active transportation interventions.
