Local Organizations That Support Women and Cycling
816 Bicycle Collective: Kansas City’s DIY community bike shop on 31st and Forrest has been helping get people on bicycles for years. Did you know that three of their boardmembers are women, including our education and outreach coordinator Maggie Priesmeyer?
Stolen Bikes KC: The Stolen Bikes KC Facebook and Twitter page are both managed by two local women, Andrea Fowles and Erica Birkman. The two started the efforts after Fowles’ bike was stolen. BikeWalkKC partnered with Stolen Bikes KC to host a bike lock clinic at our Handlebar Happy Hour at La Bodega in October.
Velo +: Velo + is a bike shop in Lenexa, KS. Vincent and his mechanics often volunteer to help BikeWalkKC and were generous supporters of the KC Women’s Bike Summit.
Revolve KC: Revolve is a community bike shop owned and operated by Elizabeth Bejan.
Family Bicycles: Family Bicycles in Waldo is owned and operated by Theresa Van Ackeren.
The Wheel Cyclery: The Wheel Cyclery in Gladstone is owned and operated by Heather Jordan.
Sisters That Are Riding Strong: Sisters That Are Riding Strong is a cycling club dedicated to promoting the sport of cycling among women in the Kansas City Area.
