The math is easy. More trails and more bike lanes equal more people on bikes, which equals more customers for your bike shop!
Every March BikeWalkKC sends a delegation to Washington, DC for the National Bike Summit, an amazing opportunity to meet our US Congressional representatives and talk to them about the importance of bicycling for the economy, health, and quality of life in Greater Kansas City. The Summit is a huge part of our work to get more bike facilities built in Kansas City - facilities like paths over the Missouri and Kansas Rivers, bike lanes on city streets, and trails like the Trolley Track, Indian Creek, Line Creek, and Little Blue.

Congressional meeting at the 2011 Summit.
The theme of the 2012 Summit is "Bicyclng Means Business" - highlightling the importance of bicycling to the economy. Not only is bicycling a huge business sector in its own right, getting more people on bikes helps to reduce health care costs, transportation costs, and environmental costs. Cities that are friendly to people on bikes are more economically competitive, especially in attracting a high quality workforce and growing companies.
As a small business owner or employee, your presence has an enormous impact in meetings with members of Congress. As a KC area resident, your impact is amplified even more because several our Senators and Representatives sit on key committees that control funding for trails, bike lanes, transit, etc.
