Today City officlals broke ground on the next phase of improvements to Longview Road in southeast KC, including bike lanes and sidewalks.
The first phase went from Grandview Road to Blue Ridge Boulevard, and this next phase will extend almost to Longview Lake its trail system. This important east/west link in southeast KC will link several neighborhoods to destinations like Smith-Hale Middle School, The Bay water park, Ingles Elementary School, Longview Community College, and neighborhood shops.
The project is already spurring redevelopment, with at least two grocery stores considering filing vacant space at Longview Road and Blue Ridge Boulevard. At today's ground breaking 6th District Councilmenbers Scott Taylor and John Sharp highlighted the important improvements for people walking and biking. Both Councilmembers have long been chamlpions for sidewalks, trails, and bike lanes in south Kansas City.
