Less than 24 hours to help us sustain and expand bike sharing

Kansas City B-cycle, BikeWalkKC's new bike sharing system, is off to a great start. Now we need your help to sustain our success and grow into more neighborhoods. We have just two days left to meet our fundraising goal. Will you help?

Donate now on Neighbor.ly.

BikeWalkKC was born in early 2011 to make Kansas City a better place walk, bike, live, work, and play. KC was one of the largest metros in the country without a regional advocacy group, and it showed. Our city was falling behind not just in walking and biking, but in economic development and quality of life. BikeWalkKC dove in headfirst with ambitious programs in bike education, walking advocacy, Safe Routes to School, and more.

We chose bike sharing as a strategy to propel the cause forward and take bicycling in Kansas City to the next level. Kansas City B-cycle is off to a great start. Thanks to partners likes Blue KC, Lockton, Burns & Macdonnell, and more than a hundred volunteers - Kansas City B-cycle launched on July 3rd. Our first trial phase put 12 stations and 90 bikes on the streets of Greater Downtown to a great response:

  • 1,700 people signed up
  • 4,500 rides taken
  • 10,800 pounds of carbon offset
  • 11,400 miles ridden
  • 450,000 calories burned

We think this is an amazing accomplishment for a small non-profit that hasn’t received any public funding. In fact, Kansas City B-cycle is the country’s only non-profit, advocacy-based bike share system. Our success is built on the support of our members and awesome partners like Missouri Bank, MRIGlobal, and the River Market Community Association.

As we look towards the end of our first trial season we are working to close out our startup capital campaign and plan for the future. Today BikeWalkKC needs your help to sustain Kansas City B-cycle and set the stage for expansion into more neighborhoods.
