BikeWalkKC's Sarah Shipley nominated for PBS honor

Our very own Sarah Shipley is a nominee for KCPT's MAKERS, the women who make KC. Sarah is nominated for her work to bring walking and bicycling to the forefront of Kansas City and improving our quality of life by co-founding BikeWalkKC and Kansas City B-cycle,

Three local women will be featured during a February showing of the national MAKERS documentary, and she is nominated among a group of tremendous women leaders. Please vote for Sarah today and help spread the word. Not only is it a vote for Sarah it's a vote for raising the profile of bicycling and walking across Kansas City!

Sarah serves as Marketing and Communications Director for both BikeWalkKC and Kansas City B-cycle. She is a nationally certified Safe Routes to School Trainer, which means she works with local schools and neighborhoods to make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school. Sarah brings to KC national experience advocating for walking and biking, previously working at the League of American Bicyclists and the Rails to Trails Conservancy.

MAKERS originated from a very clear premise: over the last half century, the work of millions of women has altered virtually every aspect of American culture. The MAKERS platform tells the story of these exceptional women — both famous and heretofore unknown individuals — whose pioneering contributions continue to shape the world in which we live.

Coinciding with the national airdate of MAKERS in February 2013, KCPT will produce three featurettes of women who have made a difference in the greater metropolitan area of Kansas City. The featurettes will be broadcast as interstitials in conjunction with the national program, will air in a KCPT magazine program, The Local Show, and will be available on the KCPT website, Facebook and Youtube pages.
