BikeWalkKC envisions a region where the majority of residents live in communities with Complete Streets policies – the simple idea that roads should be designed and built to include everyone – walkers, cyclists, children, seniors, the disabled, transit riders, and even motorists.

Today over 1.1 million peple live in the eight metro cities with Complete Streets or Livable Streets policies, covering 56% of the region's population:

  • Lee's Summit, MO (November, 2010)
  • Kansas City, MO (January, 2011)
  • Kansas City, KS (April 2011)
  • Leawood, KS (May, 2011)
  • Independence, MO (June 2011)
  • Johnson County, KS (Unincorporated areas, September 2011)
  • Blue Springs, MO (September 2011)
  • Roeland Park, KS (October, 2011)
  • Grandview, MO (November, 2011)
  • Belton, MO (January 2012)
  • Overland Park, KS (April 2012)

Regional Policy Examples

Additionally, the Mid-America Regional Council's Transportation 2040 plan includes many Complete Streets concepts that are being integrated into the metro area's transportation planning.
