Join us for an upcoming event!

We have lots of great events and activities planned for August and beyond, and hope you will join us for any and all of them:

  • Thursday, August 10: we’re bringing back our popular Maintain Your Ride Clinic with our summer edition – Your Bike Is Hot, Too!
  • Saturday, August 12: New Belgium presents Tour de Fat for the first time ever in Kansas City. They’ll bring the party with Atlas Genius and loads of festival fun. Proceeds benefit the advocacy and education programs of BikeWalkKC. Click here to learn more.
  • Tuesdays, August 15, 22, and 29: KC’s most comprehensive bicycle training, Confident City Cycling, returns. This three-course series includes hands-on and on-bike maintenance and safety skills. Limited spaces are available; sign up today.
  • Sunday, August 20: Let’s go out to the ball game!
    Join us and the Jackson County Rock Island Railroad Authority for Ride to the Royals, a group ride to Kauffman Stadium from Theis Park.
  • Wednesday, August 23: join members of BikeWalkKC’s Women Bike KC initiative for a casual, fun ride in Downtown KC followed by lunch at Spokes Cafe & Cyclery.

“Making Grand Grand,” a proposed two-way protected bike lane, has been delayed, again.

Bike Share Expands: 7 New Stations Launch

In addition to the three stations that launched in North Kansas City earlier this summer, Kansas City BCycle is adding seven additional stations this August! This brings us to a total of 40 stations, 240 bikes, and more than 16,000 riders annually so far.

The new station locations are:

  • 4th and Wyandotte (River Market)
  • 4th and Delaware (River Market)
  • Armour Boulevard and Main Street (midtown)
  • 39th and State Line (KU Med area)
  • 39th and Roanoke (KU Med area)
  • 51st and Holmes (UMKC)
  • Longview Lake (Shelter #14)

Jackson County Parks & Recreation will hold a special ribbon-cutting event on Wednesday, August 16 at 10:30am and you’re invited! Join us to celebrate the first station located in one of KC’s largest and most popular parks, and ride the Longview trail for free that day. Click here for more information.

Bikeways in Downtown KCMO: What’s Next

In a recent blog post this week, we outlined steps we believe KCMO leadership can take to make real progress on installing bikeways in Kansas City. Scholarships Available for Regional Summit

The first-ever Kansas City Safe Routes to School Summit will be held on Wednesday, September 13. This event will convene bicycle/pedestrian champions, community partners, public health experts, teachers, district administration, parents, elected officials, and city staff from both sides of the state line to learn, share, and experience all things Safe Routes to School.A limited amount of full and partial scholarships are available to offset the registration cost. Please email education@bikewalkkc.org for details.
